Recently, Wreaths Across America honored two volunteers with the New Lenox Fire Protection District’s Wreath Across America campaign.

Tammy Levey and Skip Minger were both presented plaques from Wreaths Across for America, recognizing their efforts in raising over $27,000 last year for the NLFPD, which allowed them to purchase over 1,800 wreaths placed at Abraham Lincoln Cemetery in Elwood, IL. This was the first time a single donor has been able to raise enough money to provide wreaths to cover an entire section of graves.

Tom and Linda Martini of New Lenox were on hand during a recent Board of Trustees meeting to award Minger and Levey with the recognition on behalf of Wreaths Across America and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. “We would like to thank you and let you know as a family of a fallen hero how much this means to us, to our family, and other families as well. Thank you, we truly appreciate you and all you have done,” said Linda Martini.

“The amount of time, effort, and passion that Skip and Tammy put into our annual fundraising for Wreaths Across America is unprecedented,” stated NLFPD Chief Adam Riegel. “We are very thankful for their hard work and to all who have helped us reach our goal to cover an entire section in just the few short years we have been involved with the organization.”

For the last four years, the New Lenox Fire Protection District has been honoring our nation’s veterans through the Wreaths Across America campaign. The Abraham Lincoln Cemetery has nearly 50,000 grave sites. Unfortunately, each year not every gravesite receives a wreath. It is the NLFPD’s goal to sponsor and provide as many wreaths as possible to help fill the void and honor each veteran’s gravesite through the Wreaths Across America program.

This year’s National Wreaths Across America Day will be on Saturday, December 14, 2019.
