New Lenox Fire Protection District Responds to Residential Structure Fire

Sunday, September 10th just after 2:15 p.m., the New Lenox Fire Protection District received a call for a structure fire on the 1700 block of Tomahawk Ridge.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed a medium, two-story, single-family residence with smoke showing from the rear of the building. The crews then reported a working fire in the kitchen area of the home with fire spreading to the enclosed porch on the rear of the building. The first arriving engine applied water for extinguishment of the fire and additional fire companies assisted with victim search, vertical/horizontal ventilation, water supply and additional manpower for debris removal.

The fire was under control within 40 minutes from the time of first arrival.

The occupant was out of the home before the crews arrived on scene and signed a refusal of care for minor injuries received leaving residence. The American Red Cross came in to assist the homeowner.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Multiple agencies were on the scene and at the New Lenox Fire Stations to cover any additional calls for service during that time. These include East Joliet Fire Protection District, Manhattan Fire Protection District, Frankfort Fire Protection District, Mokena Fire Protection District, Homer Fire Protection District, Orland Fire Protection District, Wilmington Fire Protection District, Troy Fire Protection District, and Northwest Homer Fire Protection District.
