New Lenox Fire Protection District Responds to Accident Involving Submerged Vehicle

Sunday evening at 6:24 p.m. the New Lenox Fire Protection District received a call for an accident with injuries on Laraway Road, just east of Schoolhouse Road. On arrival, the NLFPD learned that there was a vehicle completely submerged in a retention pond with two people still inside. The Battalion Chief on scene immediately called for the MABAS 19 Dive Team and additional ambulances.

By approximately 7 p.m., both victims were removed from the water by members of the dive team and taken to awaiting ambulances where resuscitation efforts were started. Both were transported to a local hospital.

No firefighters or dive team members were injured.

Several other area agencies assisted with the incident including: Frankfort Fire, Manhattan Fire, Orland Fire, Lockport Fire, Lemont Fire, New Lenox Police Department, Frankfort Police Department, New Lenox ESDA and Manhattan ESDA.
